The “big and ugly kitchen furniture” must have been in this house since forever,
I guess. There is a possibility that it was there, in the air, before the house was even built. The years passed, my mom and siblings left the house, and suddenly I was alone with the “big and ugly kitchen furniture”. I hated it of course and I was ready to throw it out. At that point I felt a little bad for it and told my self, “come on, don’t throw it, there must be something you can do with it”. And so it happened.
Below you can see the “before”, or actually the “veryverybefore”. I am at around 9 years old hanging with my siblings and friends.
I cut it in half and kept the below part. It was super easy actually because the upper part was attached with pegs, so I simply removed it.
I did a good sanding and continued straight with the painting with a good enamel paint. I should have primed it first by I didn’t know any better, and now I have to be extra careful with it.
I had 3 coats done if I remember correctly and left it for a while without knobs because I hadn’t decided what I wanted to put. So I went to “Knob Town”, a place full of stores that sell all kinds of knobs, door knobs etc and it is at Vissis Street, downtown Athens. I bought the ones you see below. I couldn’t decide on just one design, so I said, why not buy it all?
The hinges I liked, so there were no replacing them, just painting them. Their original color was black that didn’t really go with the new style (you can also find this type of hinges at Vissis street). Anyway, this is my favorite piece of furniture, my pride and the reason I started DIY.
Photos are not so good, but I think the differences are noticeable 🙂
