Oh deer! (or what you can do with wrapping paper)

elafi_intro_eng

Sometimes DIY is just plain and simple. Sometimes you get an idea that has a half hour execution time but it gives you so much joy. Something like that happened with the deer.

I needed a deer figure and a perfect wrapping paper. I have a lot of these papers, I gather what I like without necessarily having a project in mind. This specific one i got from Berlin, along with some more. I also needed glue, paper cutter and a surface to glue the paper on. I don’t think I need to tell you more, right?

I put it in the guest room which has nothing on the walls, but it’s my intention to get it full! So that’s a good start!

jewelry-holder-intro

If you are a follower of this blog, then you must have noticed that I have many old bed slates. So I do many things with them. One of these things is a jewelry holder for a present to Christina.

You’ll need an old bed slates (or just some scraps of wood), a stapler gun, wood glue, wood screws, wood varnish or color of your liking and a piece of string. Tools wise, you’ll need a a sander (or just sanding paper) and a drill.

Cut the wood at the desirable sizes.

Sand them really good and the paint them with the varnish. The glue the sides and place the pieces next to each other and hold them together with the stapler gun. After that, make 2 holes at the upper part and get the string though them.

thiki-kosmimata2

Finally screw some wood screws at the spots you like and it’s done! You can also screw colored furniture handles.

Make a wooden pineapple

ananas-intro-eng

There are many reasons to make a decorative wooden pineapple. I have 3 to tell you. First it’s a bit difficult and that makes it challenging. Second, my very good friends Thanassis and Natasha have a (healthy) psychosis with pineapples, so big that they even call them selves “Ananash” (the greek word for pineapple is “ananas”) that comes from their names Ana (from Anastasia) and Nash (from Thanassis)  Third, pineapples are just so nice.

You will need:

  • 1 piece of wood (choose the size that fits your need)
  • A printed pineapple to make the drawing on the wood, or just draw it your self if you’re good with drawing.
  • Jigsaw
  • Acrylic colors and a ruler
  • clamps
  • sanding paper

Draw your pineapple on the wood. Try to make it without many details so it won’t give you a hard time when cutting it.  ananas1

Use the clamps to hold the piece of wood on a steady surface. Start with the upper part of the pineapple. Start cutting little by little so you have a better control.

ananas2

After you’re done, use the sanding paper to smooth the surface out.

ananas3 ananas4

Now you can start with the coloring. I gave it a geometrical feel, but you can do as you please. I started with the blue-green parts and continued with the red-orange parts.

It’s ready!

And here is the picture from the “Ananash” house ! <3

DIY kids scooter

diy-patini-intro

So this past week it’s been craaazy! Making Xmas presents, working long hours at my regular job and then coming back home to continue making presents. So, in this post I’ll be super analytic since it’s very easy and a perfect present for the little ones. Especially if you have kids or a bunch of nieces and nephews like I have, it comes in handy <3

I found the idea here, only I used stencils instead of all paint.

Lets see, what you will need.

Tools: Jigsaw, sander, electric drill

Materials:

  • A piece of wood 30 * 30 cm (I bought a piece of 120 * 30 and had it cut in 4 pieces)
  • Color spray
  • Wood varnish
  • 4 wheels
  • 2 handles
  • Wood screws (many of them!)
  • The stencils you want
  • Tape

Now, let’s see..

Step 1: cut the stencils

diy-patini1

Step 2: tape the stencils on the wood

diy-patini2

Step 3: paint over the stencils carefully with the spray.

diy-patini3

Step 4: take a pencil and mark the parts of the corners that will be cut.

diy-patini4

Step 5: Cut!

diy-patini5

You will need to sand it though because after you cut it, it won’t be smooth.

diy-patini6

Step 6:  step is the sanding. Do the corners and all other spots that you think it’s needed to smooth the surface.

diy-patini7

diy-patini8

Step 7: You remove all the dust and then give it one coat of varnish. You must definitely wait at least 24 hours for the varnish to dry.

diy-patini9

Step 8: After you confirm that the varnish is all dry, it’s time to screw the wheels on the corners. You’ll need 4 screws per wheel.

diy-patini10 diy-patini11

Step 9: Finally you screw the handles. Make sure you place them on the same spot and height on both sides.

That’s it! You’re done!
